It was when I travelled with them that I realized I didn’t understand Taiwanese or Chinese culture as much as I thought I did. Even though we live in our own culture and feel familiar with it, explaining it to people from another culture can be a totally different experience. Introducing the culture to other people helps us think about the meaning again from a more objective point of view.
The idea of the One-day tour was proposed some years ago, but it was actually held since last year. We went to Hsinchu for the first One-day tour. Kùng Yáo (控窯) was a lot of fun and everyone had great memories. The One-day tour event was designed to be different from cultural trip. It’s somewhere easier to go, and the activities are more than tourists’ schedules and sometimes closer to the daily lives of Taiwanese students. Divided into small groups, participants tend to interact more, and the intercultural communication between the students thus increases.
